Obituary of Carolyn A. Hadge

Carolyn Hadge, 75, of Berkeley Township, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. She was born and raised in Boston, the daughter of John and Linda Bossi. She attended Latin High School in Boston Mass and went on to receive her BA in Psychology from Keen State College in Keene New Hampshire and her Masters in Counseling from The College of New Jersey.
Carolyn settled herself in Toms River, NJ in 1978 where she devoted herself to making a positive difference to the lives of women and young teens suffering from addictions. As her career blossomed Carolyn pioneered the A.S.A.P. program development and implementation in the Toms River School System. She worked tirelessly for the Toms River School System for 17 years using her resources to assist students and their families to reach their potential. Carolyn retired in the spring of 2000 receiving high honors and recognized by generations of students she mentored who are now contributing to the community. In addition, Carolyn taught Johnson and Johnson School Nurse Fellowship Program at Rutgers University summer education program over two decades as she brought her expertise to primary care providers. Most recently, she was actively employed by the Ocean County College of Toms River as an adjunct Professor in the field of drug and alcohol addiction. Her current students speak of her with profound adoration. She was a very active member of the drug and alcohol addiction community in New Jersey and her words and actions have had such a positive influence on changing the direction of hundreds of lives. Carolyn Hadge lived with such a positive regard and loved people in her life unconditionally. Consequently, the theme of her life was that she had an amazing gift to make a measurable difference in our community by guiding one sole at a time. Symbolizing these qualities she most recently was twice awarded the Soroptimist Award for her success in helping women and young girls to find their voice and potentialize their intellectual lives. Furthermore, Carolyn was currently working on legislative processes at the state house in Trenton, New Jersey. Her career originated at a grass roots level and flourished to be impactful on the national State wide arena. Carolyn was loved and valued as she loved others, intensely, consistently and with great competent purpose.
Other awards and recognitions include: State Of New Jersey Joint Legislative Resolution By Senator Connors And Assemblymen Rumpf And Van Pelt. Advocacy Leader for 2008 Innagural Program. Women Helping Other Woman International Soroptomists Award in 2000 and 2011; Ocean County Outstanding Citizen ADACO 1987, Outstanding Student Assistance Profession NJASAP 1989; Outstanding Achievement Dover Municipal Alliance 2000; District Coordinator of a Nationally Recognized Alcohol/Drug School based Program (Toms River Regional) Awards for 1987, 1988 and 1989.
She is survived by her children, Joseph Hadge of Ewing, NJ, Ronald F. Hadge and his wife Marie of Whitinsville, MA, Caron Hadge of Waldon, NY and Cynthia Hadge of Holyoke, MA; six grandchildren, Haley Hadge, Kevin Allen-Hadge, Amelia Provencall, Maxwell Jayne, Marcella Jayne, Sam Hadge; three great grandchildren, Carmelitta Flores Caron Bossi Flonez, Valencia Beatrice Miller and David Bryan Provencal II; and her loving sister Joanne True.
Friends are invited to celebrate Carolyn's life with her family on Saturday, March 26, from 4 to 7 pm at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to Southern Poverty Law Center http://www.splcenter.org/, New Jersey Prevention Network in Lakewood New Jersey and the Ocean's Harbor House, Toms River N.J. would be appreciated. Carolyn has requested that her family and friends find time to smile and celebrate life with passion. The family will be making arrangements for a Celebration of Life at a future date to be announced.
