Obituary of Violet G. Feeney
Please share a memory of Violet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Violet ¨Genevieve¨ (Gen) Feeney passed away peacefully at her home on April 5, 2022. Born April 11, 1937 in Paterson, New Jersey, Gen was forever the middle sister, which she announced at every opportunity. She was predeceased by her older sister Mary Iacovelli last fall. She is survived by her youngest sister, Francis Marklin of North Carolina. Gen leaves behind four loving children - her daughter Maureen Madden and husband Bruce Madden, (Maui, Hawaii) daughter Laura Rothenbuhler and husband Jason Rothenbuhler (Cheyenne, Wyoming) son Thomas Feeney and wife Debra Feeney (Charlotte, North Carolina) and daughter Dana Horn and husband Scott Horn (Tinton Falls, New Jersey).
Gen was also blessed with a delightful bunch of grandchildren and great (really great) grandchildren, all of whom will lovingly remember her quite simply and eloquently as Grandma Gen. She was the proud and bragging grandmother of Steven, Casey, Taylor, Tiffany, Logan, Trevor, Brittney, and Nyla. She was the very young and GREAT grandmother of Abigail, Peyton, Parker, Piper, and Ellowyn.
She will be remembered for her silly jokes, (This car is sooo smart), pretending to “see” by announcing Oh. My. God. to a convincing audience. Her people watching skills often brought us to tears as she would see a bedraggled elderly man and say, “can you call HIM dad?” Her love of coffee was legendary, her favorite dinner was ice cream and cookies and she could fool the brightest physicians into believing that she was perfectly healthy-when she was not. Rather than order in a restaurant, she would often put down an unread menu and tell the confused and rather startled waiters - “surprise me!” She adored elephants, collected nutcrackers and her very green thumb tended to beautiful plants (Genny’s Jungle) that filled her home. She loved driving her JAG (s) even though she was convinced that every mechanic was overcharging her for the never-ending repairs. She was happiest in her LBI beach house and loved to invite friends, friends of friends and family and family of family to be her guests.
She held several interesting jobs over the years, but finally retired most recently from the parish office of St. Maximilian-Kolbe in Toms River where she compiled the news for the weekly bulletin. She loved gathering the church updates and filling the bulletin with fun stories, jokes, cartoons and timely messages.
We are comforted knowing she is reunited with her son Marc, her sister Mary, her grandson, Steven, and her sweet, David Blair - among so many others who have left her and us all too soon. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 13th at Kedz Funeral home in Toms River from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. A private burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
