Bob had a huge impact on my life. He made running track and cross country so much fun, I’m still running 40+ years later. Running is a huge part of my life and it all started back at Intermediate West. Bob made you feel like you could do it. No matter how much you doubted yourself. Even after he wasn’t my coach anymore, he still encouraged me. While I was on those teams at West, I made close friends who I still get together with after all these years. We will always be friends. There are certain people who come into your life who you never forget. Petrusk is one of them. My thoughts are with Mary and Joey.

Seventeen years ago I moved to our new place next to Bob. That is how he introduced himself when we least expected. He came to our door with a big smile and friendly welcoming. He welcomed us and offered any help if needed. The great talking and the advice about his love to help young people was what I admired from him. His desired of being sensitive to those who needed it. I remember my little Chris very quickly ran to the neighbors’ house and Bob as a father brought him back to us. I will never forget him! My family and I are deeply sorry for his loss. My condolences to Joey and Mrs Petruski. My prayers goes to them. I pray they will experience God’s peace that overpasses any human understanding.

Bob embodied many roles: teacher, coach, mentor, husband , father; but my wife Lois and I know him in one his best roles, as a friend. If anyone could be like him, then they have had a life well lived.
He traveled to many continents and knew more people than most of us will ever know.
Most of all he gave all of us, teachers, parents , and those from any walk of life, an example of how to positively touch the lives of young people, which will ultimately make the world a better place.

Bob was always an energetic and positive presence at cross-country and track meets. His running camp was an event our son loved trying at age 4, and he still loves it. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Mary and Joey. Bob truly left a lasting impression on the Toms River community.

I first met Bob as a track participant in seventh grade at
Intermediate West. He exuded such a positive energy that
immediately drew anyone and everyone near him, to in some
way participate! You didn't have to be a star athlete..you
could be the manager; and if you couldn't run fast, you might
be able to run far...or perhaps jump! He would never give up
on finding you a spot on his team.
It was as if he had magical powers to create a magnetic force that not only drew you into his circle; but somehow immediately convinced you, that you were important, and that you could do anything if you worked hard and believed in yourself!
His teams were like family and everyone had each other’s back! It is in seventh grade on his Spring track team that I met my two forever best friends! The connection that Bob fostered in us has endured the test of time and distance! (for 46yrs)
So thank you Bob Petruski for making me always believe that
I could jump higher, run faster, or do anything as long as I perservered! Thank you for bringing me together with 2 lifetime friends…and thank you for the countless ways you made this world a better place because of your compassion for others and your passion for living life to its fullest!!
My deepest sympathies to Mary, Joey and family! Bob will
forever live in the hearts and minds of us all!
Love, Laura(Garretson) Meszaros

Mr. Petruski was such an important person to me during my highschool days. I was on his track and cross country team and more important than that, I was a member of TEAM. Some of my best memories of HS involve TEAM and Mr. Petruski -the car washes, the dances, the banquets and the visits to the elementary school- it was such a positive experience. I believe that TEAM and his involvement in my life kept me grounded and out of trouble. RIP Mr. Petruski. Your family and friends will be in my thoughts.
