My most profound condolences to Madelaine and to all of Billy's family and also to all of us who loved him.
It is said that only the rocks live forever. Those of us who knew Billy thought otherwise. Tough to imagine a world without Billy in it. He was truly one of those individuals who would give you the shirt off of his back. Billy's real talent, though, was his ability to make everybody he met feel important. He was charming with the fairer sex...yet he was a real man's man...a real icon!! Can't help thinking about the many friends I met at the Red Room...Smitty, Fitzy, Coach, Uncle Al, Angelo and many others. Can't help thinking about blue fishing, shark fishing, saving the boat during a hurricane, mushrooming, skeet shooting, the track...etc, etc.
RIP Billy. See you at Sundown.

We owned the Eldred Inn in Eldred, NY, and every time Billy went to the Eldred Preserve fishing he would stop in on his way home. He was a wonderful person and thankfully we got to bring our children to the Red Room to experience Billy’s generosity. I was sad when I heard about the Red Room burning and now I’m very sad to hear that Billy is gone. He was a giant and we miss him. God Bless Billy.

The end of an era. I am 69 and can remember hearing his name all my life. Truly a generous big hearted funny guy. He sure knew how to run a business and Madeline only made him better. A life lived fully and well. I am saddened to hear of his passing but I know he squeezed every last drop out of a life and was not cheated. Condolences to all his loved ones left behind of which there are many. Be grateful you knew him because he is legend and will never ever be duplicated. Rest in peace Billy pleasure to have known you rest in peace you’ve earned it.

Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to Madeline and the family. Their loss is our loss. Reading of Billy's passing brought back a flood of memories from the Red Room: Coach Keenan at the grill, the old days of "cash only, no credit cards", Sunday football with only one food item available (sometimes it was corn on the cob, sometimes pasta and meatballs and one time it was poison mushroom and squirrel stew - inside joke) also, the ever available birthday meatball with candle, southern ladies' congealed salad (another inside joke), Christmas at Katy and Don's, Thanksgiving at the Red Room and, astride it all, Billy the master fisherman and Madeline the bright smile (who never forgot a face or a good joke). We could go on and on: the cops seizing the football pool, "this is John having fun." 'the wheels on the bus go round and round", the neighborhood kids as waitstaff, etc. When the Red Room burned down, a building was lost, when Billy passed, we lost his presence, but we will never lose the memories, the happiness or the feeling of family that was Billy. Billy, you were a beacon in the lives of so many Whippany people and beyond. You were generous beyond belief and just a downright awesome guy. I will miss you, as will so many others, and I will keep my stack of chips always. Rest In Peace, my friend. My deepest condolences to Madeleine, your family and friends.

Billy was one of a kind. Always will sit with ya, enjoyed conversations about everything and anything. Of course serve us those famous Cherry shots which we enjoyed Immensely! Always a smile on his face and a true down hearted bar to have in our beautiful town of Whippany. I can see why Madeline had such a glow about her because she was married to a fantastic guy. RIP Billy….You will be truly missed!

I love going to Billy’s Red Room since I was 18 and a resident of Whippany. The tradition continued as my wife and kids made special trips to BRR for family dinners.
Billy was the best host for all of the year that I visited BRR. He always went out of his way to make sure his customers were happy and satisfied.
I always loved his Pasta Fagioli Soup. The best in the world.
I have very fond memories of Billy.
RIP

We are so very sorry to hear of Billy's passing. If it were not for the Red Room I would have never met my husband Ron. Ron and I moved to Florida but when we went home we did visit Billy and Madeline at the Red Room and brought our son. Billy gave him a dollar and the Swedish fish and it made my son smile. Sending a hug to you Madeline. I am so happy I can say I knew Billy!! Thank you for the great memories. Love Cheryl and Ron Denham

Billy and Madeline made a west coast girl right at home her first day in New Jersey and took her into the fold. My East coast family always were available with fresh fish, a conversation and having a home away from home. I still have my Billy shirt and all the memories that go with it. Rest In Peace you one in a million.
