James Michael Ewin, 68, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, surrounded by family. Jim was born November 4, 1954, in Aberdeen, Maryland, however he resided in Central New Jersey for most of his life. Jim graduated from Red Bank High School in 1972. While there, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout and wrestled for all four years of high school, winning the district championship in his senior year. He continued wrestling in Lebanon Valley College, graduating in 1976. Some of Jim’s favorite pastimes were spelunking and canoeing. He raced for many years in the Manasquan River Canoe race and on the Delaware River. He also canoed with his father around the island of Manhattan. Following employment with the Boy Scouts of America, Jim worked in software design. He was a Quality Assurance Manager for McGraw Hill Educational Software at the time of his death. Like his grandfather, James L. Ewin, Jim had a passion for Barbershop singing and was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society for close to 40 years. Jim sang with the Oceanaires, The Chorus of the Atlantic, The Brothers in Harmony, and the Mountain Aires. He loved singing in quartets and was a member of several. Jim’s many Barbershop friends will miss him. Jim was devoted to his family. He was predeceased by his father James Coe Ewin in 2016. Jim leaves behind his wife of almost 33 years Margaret Ann (Marjie) Beckenthal Ewin, and four children: Chris Soviero (Jackie), Stephanie Soviero (Joe Harris), Jessica Soviero and Michael Ewin (Markie Aronson). He is also survived by his mother, Gail Pascal Ewin; a brother, Jeff Ewin (Kim); two sisters, Lorie Ewin Dorough, Audrey Ewin; and his cousin John Meggers (Val) who spent a good number of vacations with him growing up. Jim will be greatly missed by his 5 grandchildren: Constantine, Jayden, Kayla, Harlan and Lyla, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim will be buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River. Interment is private.
