Gloria Coccia Maddi,84 of Whiting, NJ passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013.
Gloria was born in Newark, NJ on June 10, 1929. She was educated in the Newark School System in
upstate New York and graduated from the Grace Downs School Of Modeling on 5th Avenue in New York
City and modeled on television. She married and moved to Monmouth County in 1955 where she
became very active in the Republican Party politics for over 30 years, serving on the local, county and
state levels. Gloria was the first woman municipal chairman out of 53 municipalities at the time. She was
self- employed at Gloria's Coats in Watchung, NJ. Upon retiring, she moved to Ocean County where she
served on the Election Board.
She was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Angelo Coccia, five sisters, Lily Christensen, Sally
Forchelli, Nellie Grasso, Nancy Kuna and Frances Keyser, and three brothers, Peter, Ralph and Joseph
Coccia.
Gloria is survived by her daughter Joanne Maddi of TN; 2 granddaughters, Tavia Nicole Harris and Jamie
Lynn Harris of TN; 1 great grandson, Mason Blackburn; 1 brother, Anthony Coccia; and many nieces,
nephews, cousins and life-long friends.
A memorial service will be held from 12 to 2 pm on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Hancliffe Funeral Home, 222 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover, NJ 07936. Letters of condolence may be sent by visiting www.kedzfuneralhome.com.
