James Patrick Maloney, 94, passed away on July 30, 2024, in League City, TX. Born on April 29, 1930, in Bronx, NY, he lived a life marked by dedication to his family, country, and community.
James attended Mt. St. Michael's High School and furthered his education at Manhattan and Monmouth Universities. He proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, a period that shaped much of his early adult life. After his military service, James embarked on a remarkable career in the energy sector. He began as a lineman for ConEdison, before moving to New Jersey in 1957, where he worked with JCPL. His expertise led him to an opportunity with Westinghouse, training for work in a startup nuclear power plant in Saxton, PA., and then to San Jose, California, for additional experience prior to joining the start up team for Oyster Creek Nuclear Plant. James's career peaked with GPUN at Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Plant, where he dedicated 32 years, retiring in 1988 as a manager at the plant.
James was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Toms River, NJ, but spent his last year attending St. Mary of the Expectation in League City, TX. His commitment to his faith was evident through his multiple volunteer roles, including working in the counting room and food pantry, where he served well into his 80s. He also served at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery for several years, assisting families with their internment needs.
A long time resident of Island Heights, James walked many miles with his corgis, Dickens and later, Duffy. He loved interacting with his neighbors, and found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and service, survived by his daughters: Lori Allen and husband Richard, Ginger Halbfoster and husband Chris, Mary Boland and husband Tracy, son Jim Maloney and wife Alie , three stepsons John Magierski, Tom Magierski and wife Carol, and Jim Magierski and wife Emma.
