Obituary of James E. Platten

James E. Platten, 73, of Toms River, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014. James was a police officer with the Jersey City Police Department for 23 years, retiring in 1994. He was currently working security for the Philadelphia Phillies at the spring training complex in Clearwater, FL. Born to Mable and Alfred Platten in Jersey City, he grew up there and attended St. Michael's High School. He then lived in North Arlington before moving to Toms River in 1998. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Helen Heraut Platten; daughter Geralyn Cordasco and her husband Michael of Toms River; son James A. Platten and his wife Kimberly of Toms River; three grandsons, Michael, Brian and Matthew Cordasco; two granddaughters Jenna and Nicole Platten. Visitation will be at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave, Toms River on Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm with a funeral service offered at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 in James' memory.
