Obituary of Maureen B. Hughes

Maureen B. Hughes, 68 of Toms River, passed away on Saturday, November 08, 2014. Maureen was born in Jersey City and lived there most of her life. She served as a Board Member with the Jersey City Board of Education for many years and was chairperson of her local Block Association. Maureen volunteered as a girl scout leader for over 25 years. She and her husband Ivan opened their home and hearts to over 200 foster children over the past 30 years. In 2001 she moved to Toms River. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Ivan R. Hughes in 2012. Surviving are her children, Anna Ganley and her husband George, Ivan Paul Hughes and James Joseph Hughes; niece and nephews, Rachel, Shawn and Eric Lindsay; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Kathleen Ganley. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River.
