Obituary of Alice Frances Ash

Alice Frances Ash, age 91 of Lakewood died peacefully on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Harrogate Health Center in Lakewood. She was born at home in Maplewood on July 10, 1925, the youngest child of Patrick and Mary (Clarke) Tierney - both Irish immigrants. Alice graduated from Columbia H.S. in Maplewood in 1943, She worked in a bank and as a bookkeeper. She married Harry Ash in 1950 and gave birth to her only child Patrick in 1953. The family moved to Toms River in 1967. Alice was a homemaker and volunteer. She was the 'Book Lady' at Toms River Community Hospital for many years. Alice and Harry moved to Leisure Village East in Lakewood in 1980. They traveled to many places after retirement and enjoyed winters in Florida. In 2011 Alice moved to Harrogate. She was predeceased by her husband Harry in 2004, her son Patrick in 2011, and two brothers, John and James Tierney.
Alice is survived by her daughter in law Cynthia Leas of Anchorage, AK; three cousins, John (Eleanor) Cosgrove of Keyport, Alice Costello of Bay Shore, Long Island and Margaret (George) Schnitzer of Spring Lake Heights; and seven nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30, Friday at St. Joseph's Church 509 Hooper Ave., Toms River. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
