Obituary of Edwin Jelley
Please share a memory of Edwin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edwin Jelley, 87, of Toms River, passed away 5pm May 8, 2017 at Arbors Care Center, Manchester. Edwin was born September 20, 1929 in Millburn, the son of William Jr and Robina Burns Jelley. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: William 3rd, Samuel, David, & Alfred; and 2 sisters: Robina Jelley Hart and Marjorie Jelley Estelle. Edwin served his country with the US Army as a tank mechanic in the Korean War. He married Sondra D. Disbrow April 25, 1953. They raised a son, Edwin Jr. of Littleton, NH, and a daughter, Jeanne Sue Jelley, of Toms River, and spent the next 64 years together. His first job out of the Army was a truck driver for 5 years with Eagle Lumber Co. and then worked 31 years as a boiler operator at Ciba Geigy, and retired as Watch Engineer in 1988. He enjoyed games of chess and dominoes, gardening, wood crafting, and 41 years of vacations in a log cabin he and his father in law built on Ogontz Lake in Lyman, NH. Just as that cabin was built on a firm foundation, Edwin's life was built on God's Word. (2 Cor. 5:17 NLT) He helped build Emmanuel Community Church in Bayville, where he was a member, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Surviving are his wife, Sondra Disbrow Jelley; son, Edwin Jr; daughter, Jeanne Sue Jelley; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Visitation is Tuesday 11am – 12pm at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River, with a service at 12pm. Entombment will follow to Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel Community Church, 331 Wheaton Ave., Bayville, NJ 08721 or Caring Hospice Services, 1090 King Georges Post Road, Suite 703, Edison, NJ 08837. Oliverie Funeral Home, Manchester is in charge of arrangements.
